A haven of peace and tranquility
It wasn’t always a tourist resort, though, and for centuries many of the bricks that built modern Britain came out of Hayling Island. It was famous for its ‘Emsworth Oysters’ too, which were farmed here right up until the 1970s. Today, the old oyster beds are an internationally-important wildlife and bird reserve, so don’t forget to bring your binoculars!
Home to the stunning Billy Trail that follows the old railway line, a staycation in Hayling is perfect for taking in that fresh sea breeze.
