Stay home – stay safe – stay fit

27 March 2020

Staying fit and healthy during this time of unrest will not only help us avoid putting those few extra pounds on that we’ve worked hard since Christmas to shed – but it will also help our mental wellbeing whilst we’re stuck indoors and not able to see our friends and families.

Of course, following government advice, we can go for a walk, run or bike ride outside (once a day); as long as we only go in our household groups and stay a safe distance (2m is the recommended distance) from others, but why not use this opportunity to try something different, or make exercise fun? Click here for some ideas.

Exercise is certainly not top of the agenda for our Willerby marketing team, but we know that while we have to spend more time in our homes and are practising social distancing, exercise can help us feel good – both physically and mentally – so we’re giving it a go!

100s of exercise coaches, celebrities and even the stars of Strictly are taking to their social media accounts to try and make exercise more fun and inclusive for everyone during this difficult period. See below for some of our suggestions:

  • The Body Coach – Joe Wicks, The Body Coach has been actively promoting his P.E. with Joe since the announcement of school closures last week, but did you know he’s also just released two home workouts for seniors on his YouTube channel? Plus, there are 100s of other workouts on there too. Click here to subscribe (it's FREE) and get fit!

  • Davina McCall, TV presenter and fitness fanatic, has made her online gym – Own Your Goals Davina – available to everyone for FREE for 30 days. There’s a whole host of exercise classes available, from yoga classes to HIIT workouts (little or no equipment is needed) and you can also get nutritional advice and join the community group to connect with like-minded people. NO payment details are required. Sign up at ownyourgoalsdavina.com

  • Oti Mabuse, star of Strictly Come Dancing and The Greatest Dancer streamed live dance classes from her Instagram account last weekend. They included a beginner’s Salsa class and a kids rock and roll class. You can watch the videos again on Oti’s official YouTube channel, and be sure to keep your eye on her Instagram account for details of further classes coming soon – here’s hoping we can all Quickstep like Anton Du Beke in no time!

We promise to give one or two these a try in the next week and share our feedback in the next newsletter! If you try any of them out, or indeed find any other fun ways to exercise, be sure to share them with us by emailing marketing@whh.co.uk.
