What we've been watching on the TV

It can always be a bit tricky to decide on something new to watch on TV and recommendations can always be a big help when you need a bit of inspiration. So we thought it would be a great idea to share what we've watched on the TV recently.

We asked our marketing and Hull showground team and this is what they had to say…

Chloe L, our Head of Marketing, has been watching Only Murders in the Building, this comes highly recommended if your looking for a crime fiction with a twist. The plot follows three strangers (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez), who discover a shared true crime podcast obsession who decide to start their own podcast when another resident in their affluent apartment building is murdered. With a true contemporary feel, the series has received critical acclaim for its comedic approach to crime fiction as well as the chemistry and performances among the leads - not so much of a surprise given Martin and Short's history of working together. If you watch it and enjoy it, there’s some good news… a second series is due out this year.

April, our Marketing Executive, has been watching Hullraisers, a female-led comedy series written by Hull comedian Lucy Beaumont. The series follows three friends as they navigate their everyday lives. Here’s what she had to say ‘I loved the honest, raw, and down-to-earth nature of this comedy series. The 30-minute episodes were the perfect length for a quick tea break. The northern humour made the show at times laugh out loud funny.’ .

Chloe C, our Digital Marketing Apprentice, said ‘A show that I’ve been binge watching is Grey’s Anatomy, I am hooked! You have to have real commitment to watch it all though as it has a whopping 18 seasons but I would definitely recommend’. The show is a medical drama about the medical journey of surgical interns and their mentors, focusing on their personal lives and their careers becoming doctors, the show revolves around the character Meridith Grey who starts the show as an intern. All episodes are available to watch on Disney+.

Bob, our Hull showground manager, has been watching The Split which is a British TV 6-episode legal drama series that follows the lives of the Defoe family, who all work in divorce law for the family firm, aside from eldest sister Hannah, who works for a rival family law firm. Here’s what he thought ‘it is a very well made series with superb acting by the entire cast; absolutely incredible acting by everyone I must say. Even though the series is heavily focussed on relationships, it never goes overboard with the melodrama element. Hard to choose the best performer of this series but Nicola Walker is my top choice for her balanced and understated performance. I would definitely recommend anyone giving it a watch’.

Now that you have some ideas of what to watch, just put your feet up and relax in front of the TV with a cuppa and snacks, binge watching some great TV.
