Lewis' BBQ Burgers05 August 2020
The weather is going to be fantastic this weekend, what better way to enjoy the sunshine than with a homemade burger?! Lewis has shared his burger recipe sure to be a hit with all of the family.
400g beef mince (10% fat)
One red onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 medium egg, beaten
1 tablespoon dijon mustard
1 tablespoon wholegrain mustard
Oil for frying
4 bread rolls
Tip the mince into a bowl with the onion, carrot, garlic, mustard, and egg. Mix well using a fork. Season with pepper and a pinch of salt, then divide the mixture into 4. Flatten each piece with your hands into a 10cm round (A), about 2cm thick – a similar width to the buns. Chill for about 30 mins. Or can be made a day ahead: stack the burgers between pieces of greaseproof paper to stop them sticking, wrap in cling film then chill until ready to cook.
Heat a griddle pan, or cook the burgers on the barbecue. Lay the cut sides of the bread buns on the griddle and cook until they are marked with the griddle bars. Brush the burgers with oil and place on the hit griddle, oiled side down. Cook for 5 minutes (for medium), brush unoiled side with some more oil, then flip and cook for a further 5 minutes (for well done, add another 2 minutes each side).
Remove burgers from heat and rest for 3 minutes. Add topping of choice to your bread bun, we recommend chill jam on one side and gherkin relish to the other side with a generous helping of cheese and salad.
