Team talk with Cameron Plews

As we continue our Team Talk series, we speak to Cameron Plews, a grade A cabinet maker based in Willerby’s cab shop. He joined us in September 2015 and completed two apprenticeships, qualifying in July 2019.
Q. Tell us about your job and what it involves.
A. I make furniture for the holiday homes, everything from kitchens to wardrobes, working on Line 1 at the main Hedon Road site. The furniture comes flat-packed from our machine shop and we build everything from drawings. I worked all over the factory during my apprenticeship but chose to specialise in cabinet making.
Q. What’s the best thing about your job?
A. I like the challenge and we work to tight timescales. It’s different every day and you constantly have to think and concentrate while reading the drawings.
Q. What does being part of the Willerby team mean to you?
A. Willerby is a great company to work for and I was well looked after during my apprenticeship, with lots of people to ask for advice. They’ve given me a brilliant opportunity and that’s enabled me to progress to where I am now.
Q. If you didn’t work for Willerby and you could do any job in the world, what would it be?
A. My dad is a paramedic, so I would probably follow in his footsteps and help people.
Q. What’s your guilty pleasure?
A. I love fishing and clay pigeon shooting. I’ve been doing it for a few years and I enjoy the thrill and adrenaline clay pigeon shooting gives you.
