What are we watching

Here’s a round-up of some of the programmes and films we’ve been watching recently. They’re all available on video streaming services or the broadcasting channels on-demand service so even if they’re partway through the series, you can still catch up!

Beat the Chasers (ITV Hub) - Love the original 5 pm quiz show? Beat the Chasers is a quick-fire quiz show featuring all five of the current chasers. It certainly had us on the edge of our seats.

Normal People (BBC iPlayer) - we’ve not watched it yet but heard this drama series, based on the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, gets rave reviews. Let us know if you’ve already watched it.

Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip (ITV Hub) - maybe not one to watch with the kids, there’s a lot of innuendos and a bit of swearing too, but nevertheless a fun and entertaining travel adventure, with a little bit of cooking too.

Unorthodox (Netflix) - if you can cope with subtitles, we loved learning about the story of Esty, a 19-year-old woman who lives in an ultra Jewish community in New York. This is the story of her unhappiness, her escape and the rejection of her religion.

Jamie: Keep cooking (All 4) - the first five episodes were filmed in the studio but after the lockdown was announced on the 23rd March, the remaining episodes were filmed by Jamie and his family from home so it really is no-frills cooking.

Killing Eve (BBC iPlayer) - It’s funny, witty, gory and scary all rolled into one. Hats off to Jodie Comer who no doubt puts on one of the best acting performances we’ve ever seen in this must-see thriller!

Great British Sewing Bee (BBC iPlayer) - nothing too tasking, just an easy watch that makes you feel warm inside :)

The Tiger King (Netflix) - 64 million watched The Tiger King in its first month. There’s not really any way to describe it. Perhaps bonkers covers it?! Give it a watch (if you haven’t already), you’ll soon understand what we mean.

Hustlers (Amazon Prime) - a little raunchy in places, this film, based on true events, follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

Grey’s Anatomy (Sky Witness for the current series. Catch up on Now TV) - This binge-worthy series is in its 16th season. In the genre of an American hospital drama, it ticks all the boxes - blood, intrigue, romance and escapism.

James Martin's Islands to Highlands (ITV Hub) - The ‘proper Yorkshireman’ travels across the UK bringing us his favourite stunning locations. James is joined by different celebrity chiefs to celebrate the Great British produce found on our doorstep.

After Life (Netflix) - Ricky Gervais’ black comedy takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion, it will leave you hugging your loved ones tight and belly laughing with joy. Gervais’ performance as a recently widowed reporter coming to terms to life after his wife’s death is truly moving - a must-watch.

Dunkirk (Netflix) - During World War II allied forces from Belgium, Britain and France are surrounded by the German Army which leads to the biggest evacuation the world has ever seen. Christopher Nolan brings to life the story of Dunkirk in this masterpiece which leaves you proud to be British.

Ozark (Netflix) - A financial advisor drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder money to appease a drug lord from a cartel crime family. This is breaking bad come rain man which will have gripped from the first episode.
