York

Famous as one of Dracula’s stopovers and home to the smallest street in the country, York is a fascinating city to visit.

A medieval city that commands attention

Go on a night-time ghost walk through York’s cobbled streets or head over to the gardens of Goddard’s House, once home to the Terry family (of ‘chocolate orange’ fame!) While you’ve got your walking boots on, check out the 660-year-old Merchant Adventurer’s Hall. It’s one of the best-preserved Tudor merchant guild houses in the world.

Shoppers will find The Shambles a sure-fire hit, while the 7th-century York Minster is sure to leave you speechless. If you’ve got the time, take a day trip to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. From Aysgarth Falls to Rawthey Valley, this patchwork of peaks and villages is one of the finest parks in the country.
