Paignton

It may be the famous setting for Basil Fawlty’s fictional hotel, but the seaside resort of Paignton is one of the best staycation spots in the UK.

Here, palm-lined seafronts meet colourful huts and traditional seaside fare.

There’s also something here to suit all tastes (provided you like fish!): from Paignton Zoo and The Seashore Centre to Brixham Fish Market. The latter is world-famous, and where many of the nation’s best chefs source their seafood. In-between, you’ll find Splashdown Quaywest (a waterpark on the Tor Bay), Paignton Pier, Dartmouth Steam Railway and England’s longest national trail (a whopping 630 miles long!).
