Get buzzy making the perfect honey pancakes!

13 February 2018

As part of our Willerbee campaign to help save the UK’s bee population, we’ve collated these honey-based pancake recipes, just in time for Pancake Day! So you can bee extra sweet to your beeloved family with these delicious offerings!

**Did you know? **The Willerbee is our company mascot. Our founder, a Hull man named Walter Allen, used to make beehives for a living. In a moment of inspiration he decided to build holiday homes and Willerby was born. Over 70 years later, we're still going strong, so the Willerbee is a nod to say thanks to the man who made beehives.

Kids’ Honey Bear Pancakes

A really easy one to keep the kids entertained!

INGREDIENTS

  • Shake & Make Pancake Shaker (just add water)
  • Olive Oil
  • A mixture of forest fruits (e.g. raspberries, blackberries, blueberries etc.)
  • 2 peaches (halved)
  • Honey

**METHOD

The boring adult bit…**

  1. Add the required about of water to your Shake & Make Pancake Shaker and shake until ready

  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan for about a minute, then pour in just enough batter in to make a small pancake

  3. Cook for 3 - 4 minutes on one side. Check it’s golden brown before flipping, then cook the other side until it’s the same colour

  4. Place your pancakes on a plate for the kids to decorate

The fun kid bit…

It’s your turn to take over and start having some fruity fun!

  1. If you want your pancakes to look like our bear, you’ll need to use two blueberries for eyes, a raspberry for the mouth, a blackberry for his nose, and two peach halves on either side for cheeks

  2. Use two more peach halves under the base to look like ears, and then drizzle with honey

  3. Now enjoy – we promise they’re delicious (and pretty healthy as far as pancakes go)!

**Whole-wheat Oat & Honey Pancakes
**
A healthy whole-wheat option (if you replace the honey-butter syrup with fresh fruit) – perfect for those choosing to ‘live well’!

**INGREDIENTS

Pancakes**

  • 1 cup whole-wheat flour
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup oats

Honey-Butter Syrup

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 tbsp honey
  • 1 1/2 tbsp melted butter

**METHOD
**

  1. Mix all of the dry ingredients (except the oats) together in a bowl

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, vanilla and honey together until the honey is dissolved

  3. Create a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and slowly pour in the wet ingredients. Whisk everything together gently until fully combined. Finally, stir in the oats

  4. Heat a non-stick pan or griddle with a little oil or butter and heat to medium heat. Pour in 1/4 cup pancake batter at a time, and fry for a few minutes until the batter starts to bubble. Then flip the pancakes and let them cook for another 2-3 minutes. Then remove from the heat

  5. To make the honey butter syrup, simply whisk the maple syrup, honey, and butter together

  6. Serve pancakes hot with fresh fruit, honey butter syrup, honey or if you’re feeling decadent – all three!
