The best holiday parks in Scotland for St Andrew’s Day

As 30th November marks St Andrew’s Day in Scotland we’re taking a look at some of our favourite holiday parks north of the border.

St Andrew has been celebrated in Scotland for over a thousand years but didn’t officially become the country’s patron saint until 1320. Scotland’s flag, which bares the cross of St Andrew (the Saltire) was chosen in honour of him, and it is claimed that the ancient town of St Andrew’s was his final resting place.

With so much history surrounding St Andrew, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite Scottish holiday parks including the picturesque surroundings of Loch Lomond, the gateway to the Cairngorms and one of Scotland’s most historic castles and being a stone’s throw from the site where it is believed some of St Andrew’s remains are buried.

Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Set in the beautiful Perthshire countryside and in the estate of Scone Palace, where Robert the Bruce was crowned King of Scotland, our Scone site is a wildlife lover’s paradise. You can expect to see everything from buzzards to deer and maybe catch a glimpse of the resident family of black rabbits.

Scone is located just under an hour’s drive from St Andrew’s. The town is famous for a number of reasons including being home to the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland, the historic St Andrew’s Cathedral and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrew’s. Its connection with Saint Andrew is based on the belief that a number of his bones were brought to a monastery in the town.

Blair Castle Caravan Park

Situated in the grounds of Blair Castle and at the base of the Cairngorms National Park, Visit Scotland awarded Blair Castle Caravan Park a 4-Star rating and is one of only four Premier Parks in Scotland. The park was named AA campsite of the year in 2017 and offers facilities including nine acres of green space, complete with a mini football pitch and kids’ playground, the Atholl hair and beauty room, an onsite shop, games room and laundrette as well as segway and bike hire.

Whilst staying at the park there are a range of activities available across the estate from pony trekking to a Land Rover safari across the highlands. There are numerous trails that can be walked or cycled, and you even have the option of tractor tours around the grounds of Blair Castle.

Loch Lomond Holiday Park

Located directly on the banks of the loch with stunning views of the surrounding national park, Loch Lomond Holiday Park is the ideal Scottish getaway. It’s an angler’s dream with its well-stocked lochs, rivers and shores, and there are hundreds of trails around the loch or up in the natural beauty of the Glencoe Mountains. There are also yacht tours or boat cruises across the loch as well as a wealth of activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Whether it’s to celebrate St Andrew’s Day or a family getaway, Scotland’s natural beauty caters for all and with a Willerby holiday home you’ll have all of this and more on your doorstep.
