The best Christmas markets in the UK

Visiting a Christmas market is the best way to get into the Yuletide spirit, giving you the opportunity to find unique gifts and decorations while enjoying traditional food from around the world and drinking plenty of mulled wine.

We’ve rounded up the best UK Christmas markets and some of the holiday parks close to them.

Glasgow

Glasgow will once again be a hive of activity this Christmas with the popular German markets returning to St Enoch Square and St George’s Square. Whether it’s a unique gift you’re looking for or simply some festive cheer, there are over 50 chalets at each location offering a wide selection of street food, traditional German Gluhwein and many more festive treats. Those who have a Willerby holiday home at Campsie Glen or Lomond Woods holiday parks are just a short journey away from one of Scotland’s most popular markets.

St Enoch Square Market runs from 9th November to 23rd December 2018.

George’s Square Market runs from 25th November to 31st December 2018.

Nottingham

Surrounded by six holiday parks, the Nottingham Christmas Market is the perfect place to enjoy a day out this festive season. Amongst others, the Shardlow Marina, Golden Valley, Riverside Park, Tall Trees Park, Sherwood Forest and Sherwood Castle sites are all within a 45-minute drive. This year the Nottingham Christmas Market is bigger than ever with over 70 stalls offering an array of seasonal products including bespoke gifts, artisan cheeses, continental foods, homemade chutney, jewellery and much more. Traders have been carefully chosen to ensure the market offers the best quality and diversity.

Nottingham Christmas Market runs from 15th November to 24th December 2018.

Exeter

Those staying at Kennford International Caravan Park, Crealy Greater Adventure Park & Resort and Holmans Wood Holiday Park are in for a festive treat with the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market. The historic city of Exeter hosts the Christmas market on Cathedral Green every year and supports local businesses and performances from the city. The Cathedral Market has an exciting mix of continental and local crafts and gifts and this year, the ‘food village’ is back by popular demand, selling festive foods from hog roast and baklava to Belgian chocolates and mulled apple gin. This year also promises more entertainment than ever, taking place on the bandstand including local bands, carol singers and choirs.

Exeter Cathedral Market runs from 15th November – 16th December 2018.

Birmingham

Settled around the Somers Wood Caravan Park, Kingfisher Holiday Park and Island Meadow Caravan Park, Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is the place to go during the festivities. The signing of the Frankfurt-Birmingham Partnership Agreement in 1996 led to unprecedented collaborations, initiatives and projects between the two cities, which has allowed the Birmingham Christmas market to stay traditional to its German heritage. Listen out for sizzling bratwurst and clinking tankards while the aromatic smell of Glühwein fills the air, this market is the largest German market outside of Germany and Austria and offers a truly Christmassy atmosphere. Taking place in the heart of Victoria Square, the vast spread of seasonal stalls offers a range of traditional goods and gifts as well as native food including pretzels, schnitzels, and roasted almonds.

The Frankfurt Market runs from November 15th to December 23rd 2018.

Manchester

One of the UK’s biggest Christmas markets, The Manchester Christmas Markets are a short drive away from a number of sites including Moorlands Caravan Park and Royal Vale Caravan Park. To get you into the Yuletide spirit, there are a range of markets adorning the streets of the city, including a European market in Albert Square, a German-style market at St Ann’s Square and French-themed stalls on King Street. Throughout the 300 festooned stalls and chalets you can truly soak up the festive atmosphere. Pick up unique, handmade gifts and decorations, and choose from an array of delicious, traditional food, including bratwurst, goulash, paella, Dutch frites and the famous Yorkshire pudding wrap. Stay late and watch the markets transform at dusk with lights twinkling around the large Father Christmas on the town hall.

Manchester Christmas Markets run from 9th November to 22nd December 2018. (The market in Albert Square will stay open until 23rd December).

Winchester

Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market is widely regarded as one of the best in Europe due to its historic surroundings, high quality exhibitors and the array of gifts and foods on offer. Situated near the Solent Breezes and Harbourside holiday parks, Winchester Christmas Market is the ideal place to embrace the festive season. Whether it’s exploring the one hundred chalets full of decorations and fine foods or enjoying a family skate on the open-air ice rink, it’s a place for the whole family to enjoy. Inspired by traditional German Christmas markets, Winchester attracts nearly half a million visitors each year and hand picks its exhibitors to make sure only the highest quality of goods are on offer.

Winchester Christmas Market runs from 17th November to 20th December 2018.
