Pubs and restaurants - our recommendations

05 July 2020

Slowly but surely a lot of our favourite places to eat and drink are opening up across the UK. Hopefully you’ll be able to visit some of them soon!

If steak is your thing then we would recommend Hawksmoor. They are gradually opening up their restaurants across the UK. Their ribeye has to be one of the best we have ever tried. And we know they aren’t healthy but try their beef dripping fries. Sorry to anyone who’s still trying to lose the ‘COVID stone’!

Feeling flash?, the Hand and Flowers is a two Michelin star pub with rooms. Located in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, it’s owned and run by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge. We’d recommend the set lunch menu, currently priced at £37.50 for three courses - there can’t be many places in the UK where you can enjoy such high quality for such a reasonable price.

A bit closer to team Willerby’s home is Fischer’s at Baslow Hall. It’s where our marketing director got married and where she heads for a special treat. It’s so close to Chatsworth House too - blend the two together and you have a perfect day out. They grow a lot of their own produce and the tasting menu is a feast for the eyes - and the palate!

Once you can get to the Edinburgh area head to the coast. Don’t miss out on what we consider the best fish and chip shop in the UK. The Fishmarket is on the harbour front in Newhaven. The haddock is exceptional - pair it with a glass of crisp white wine (yes, you can buy it too!) and sit on the harbour front. Just bliss.

There aren’t many chain restaurants that would make our list but we suggest you try Côte Brasserie. Their French onion soup is just one of the best soups we’ve had in a long time! Not getting out for a while? Then their ‘at homeservice is fantastic! Order all the French classics, plus wine, for you to enjoy in your own house.
